Work

Today I spent 8 hours, starting at 6:00 AM, standing in front of a conveyor belt by a huge punch-press that was spitting out truss braces at a rate of about 40 per minute. My job was to stack them in groups of ten, put the stacks in boxes. I did spend an hour or so stacking truss plates, so at least there was some variety. This has got to be the must unrewarding, outrageously underpaid, and hugely worthless (to me) job I’ve ever had. About all I can say in its favor is that the time passed rather quickly. Which is good, because tomorrow my shift starts at 5:00 AM because of mandatory overtime. I might have to work on Saturday, too.

In short, should any other position be offered to me that doesn’t consist of stacking sharp metal objects and packing them into boxes for $7.50 an hour, I will snap it up with such speed that you will think me in possession of speedy superpowers.
