God bless pain-killers. Let me say that much to start with. Granted, I’m doing very well with my post-op swelling and pain – both are minimal, especially when one considers that two of my wisdom teeth were impacted and one was still completely covered by bone prior to removal. But yeah, the fact that I’m doing well with that stuff just reinforces how fun these drugs are. Good stuff. OK, I’ll stop sounding like a junkie now and move on to other things.
So I did finally finish On the Road by Jack Kerouac. Most excellent stuff to be sure. While I’m sure there are some things I’ll understand better when I eventually read it again, I found on my initial read-through that it is a text truly deserving of its legendary status. So gloriously conceived and executed. I believe it has only whet my appetite for more Kerouac. A 2004 Kerouac binge is rather probable, I believe.
I ordered a few new books on amazon.com tonight. I’ve always got to keep a dozen or so in the queue so I always have something on hand to read, if not five or six things on hand to read, with the built in contingency protection that guards against a sudden lack of reading material due to an abrupt shift in desired subject matter. And besides, I just like having fresh material all around. It’s nice to be able to sample the first few pages of a dozen different books before choosing the next one to read.
The big question of the night – will I actually say anything, or will I just keep typing about pointless things in nondescript paragraphs that never actually state anything truly worth communicating? Hell if I know.
Time to write some emails…
