Now we’re cooing with gas!

So tonight I cooked my first actual meal in my new apartment. Just something I learned to fudge together in college – mushrooms and onions with fresh garlic. You chop up one small onion, wash and bisect a box of white cap mushrooms, crush a garlic clove, and put the works in a pan with olive oil. Cook things on medium heat for about 10 minutes, add about a half-cup of water, stir it up, and let it simmer down over about 20 minutes. Once the water is mostly evaporated, you take it off, put it in a bowl, mix it up with some fresh sprouts, and you’ve got yourself a tasty, healthy, and absurdly easy vegetarian meal.

And I will say this – I officially love cooking on a gas stove. It’s just so much nicer than an electric burner. And I can’t wait until I start baking things here, too. The kitchen in this apartment has the aforementioned gas stove as well as a Bosch convection oven. Why they bothered putting a $1,500 oven and a $700 cooktop in the kitchen of an apartment like this, I have no idea, but I’m not about to complain either.

Oh look, it’s snowing outside. Yay Chicago…
