So I got a roll of Ilford XP2 so I could take some pictures of Chicago, get them developed down at Walgreens, and scan the prints to post here and over at Fotki. Nice and easy, right? Apparently not. The film and camera did exactly what they were supposed to. I guess it’s too much to ask that of the moron running the photolab at Walgreens, though. For those of you who have never had the pleasure of doing it yourself, running the big machines they have in the 1-hour photo labs is easy. Processing C-41 negative film is damn near foolproof. Or so you’d think. This guy proves me wrong, though. I guess the machine did an OK job printing the images – the problem is that the entire roll of film shows massive marking from insufficient chemistry volume in the machine. There are what amounts to splash marks on every negative on the roll.
How can the fuck up something so easy so completely?
Next time I’m just taking my shit to Gamma or one of the other pro labs here. Fuck it.
At least I know that my new lens is sharp and that the meter in my camera is spot fucking on…
But yeah – no photos for a little while yet. I could scan a few of the prints I do have if it weren’t for the fact that I can’t find the power adapter for my roommate’s scanner.
I think it’s time to give up on this for today and just go do some reading.
