Daily Thoughts for 2021-04-30 Friday

Tora demanding love

It’s about 14:00 as I begin this post, and kids will start showing up soon, so this will be quick.

As I noted in another post, this weekend I’ll be diving into downsizing, decluttering, and getting organized. I was going to start in on it first thing Saturday morning, but frankly I’m feeling so into it that I think I might begin tonight after work, at least to whatever extent I can without making much noise (my building has very thin walls and I don’t want to disturb the neighbors).

But the important thing here is the fact that I am actually excited about this. I, David Munson, the king of clutter, the doctor of disorganization, the master of mess, am actually feeling excited about getting organized again. And not only that, I’m also excited about minimizing and getting rid of everything around my place that I don’t actually need.

It will be good for me, but there’s also the fact that it’s not something most people who know me would expect, I think, at least based on past patterns of behavior.

Clearly, some kind of internal shift has begun, and I intend to put a lot of effort into pushing that forward.

Mayumi is gone for a few days to visit her parents, and when she comes back, I want her to be pretty floored by the progress I’ve made. It won’t be totally done (I’m not magical), but there will be a big difference.

Yesterday we spent the day together wandering around Kawagoe and it was a lot of fun. We always have a lot of fun together, but I noticed a bit of stress in myself as we neared home, and I was very aware of the mess (mostly in the living room) that was awaiting us.

That sucks and I don’t want that in my life. I also don’t want to have to be careful about where I’m walking when I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night because there’s stuff in the way.

Kids are now arriving at the school so I’ve got to wrap this up, but I’m excited and it’s good to be excited.

Oh, and I just put up Somewhere in Japan № 35, so go give that a read as well!
