Daily Thoughts 2021-04-21 Wednesday

Check out this lemon balm

I’ve been told that the best, most effective goals are formatted as SMART1 goals. That is, they are best when they are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

To that end, and to add some accountability by doing it in public, I’d like to announce one of my health/fitness goals: get my weight down to 72kg or less by 2021-05-28. I am currently at 76 kg, which gives me about 5.5 weeks to lose 4kg. Based on personal experience, I’d say that this is very doable.

At several other times in the past, after snapping out of the tail end of a long depression, I’ve found myself with 5-8kg to lose to get back in to my normal/ideal weight range. The effort to lose the weight is usually a somewhat intense one, and one that helps me get my discipline back in the areas of diet and exercise.

I commit to it, I get to work with exercise and improved eating habits, and the results show up in a reasonable amount of time.

Not always easy, but simple.

It also motivates me a great deal to do some more difficult things like riding my bike to work, which I did today. 17km each way isn’t too bad, but it’s enough to burn 900 Calories by the end of the day and challenge my fitness level.

In other news, I’m working on a new themed post for the site having to do with clutter, depression, and the relationship between them. Depending on the shape it takes, it may or may not have something to say about minimalism, but if it doesn’t then that’ll just go into its own post.

I’m also putting together a page for the site that will list various goals/aims/aspirations that I’m working towards, currently and in the future. When that’s together, I’ll also write to explain about the main things I’m focusing on to begin with.

There’s also work to be done to keep up with new posts for Somewhere in Japan. Not sure what I’m going to write for Friday just yet, but some things are brewing.

Kids are arriving at the school now, so that’s all for today.

Wow, 17km is pretty hefty! My commute to work is 14km each way, and it was challenging enough to cycle it back when I was up for doing stuff like that.

You reminded me to update my now page: https://sendaiben.org/now/

I probably won’t ride to work every day, as I still value and enjoy the time available to me when riding the train to work, but 2-3 times a week I’ll get on the bike. It feels good and it’s decidedly good for me.

And you’ve reminded me that I also need to update https://davidrmunson.com/now
