Blackball

Tonight I was given a friendly warning from a friend of mine telling me not to set my assisting rate too high, lest I risk being blackballed. I apprecited her telling me this, but there’s something about it that bothers me. That is, the notion of being blackballed for charging what you view is a fair price for your services. It’s like, if you’re not always willing to sell yourself short and work for mediocre pay, you risk sacrificing your assisting career altogether.

What the fuck?

The notion of blackballing has always seemed wholly unfair and unethical to me. The kind of thing that makes me want to go out and beat the crap out of people. The idea of a group of people deciding they don’t like you and so are going to make it impossible for you to work is absolutely abhorrent. I cannot, and will not ever tolerate shit like that.
